The second series visits Liberty High as it prepares to go on trial after Hannah Baker’s death.
“Memories of Hannah haunt Clay as a lawsuit against the school goes to trial, and more startling secrets emerge as the students testify,” the shows description reads on Netflix.
Mental health, self-harm and suicide, were just some of the controversial topics series one depicte, and as such the show divided viewers.
While the second series now has gone ahead, there were originally fears that the premiere date would be pushed back according due to concerns from the Parents Television Council, according to GLAMOUR.
The council called for further research into the show to ensure it is “safe for consumption by an audience comprised of minor children.”
“We may never know the full extent of how grave the influence [of 13 Reasons Why season 1] was, but we do know it was enough for Netflix to commission a research report on how the show has impacted the lives of viewers – especially young viewers – in positive ways,” said Tim Winter, president of the PTC.
