The separate campaigns to champion women in business and local artisinal produce are set to collide this International Women’s Day.
On Thursday, March 9th, guests to the award-winning Mustard Seed restaurant at Echo Lodge in Ballingarry, Co Limerick will choose from a menu which features some of head chef Angel Pirev’s favourite ingredients, which all just happen to be from female food producers.
Dishes served at the Irish Blue Book property will include salmon from Birgitta Hedin Curtin’s Burren Smokehouse in Co Clare, which was famously served to the Queen of England during her visit to Ireland in 2011, and cheese from award winning Kerry cheesemaker, Maja Binder.
Additional ingredients will be sourced from local businesses in West Limerick, including Cahills’ Cheese and Rigney’s Farm as well as the Mustard Seed garden.
Last year Angel Pirev made a special appearance on Neven Maguire’s Irish Food Trails aired on RTE 1, and used the platform as another opportunity to demonstrate his passion for using locally sourced produce.
“We are committed to sourcing excellent quality ingredients to create our dishes,” explained the Mustard Seed proprietor John Edward Joyce.
“Producers like Birgitta, Maja, Helen Cahill and Caroline Rigney are an inspiration and we admire their innovation and creativity. We are proud to include their produce on our menus.”
International Women’s Day takes place on Thursday 8 March and celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women. The 2018 campaign theme is #PressforProgress.
The Mustard Seed dinner costs €48 per person for 5 courses including tea/coffee with petits fours.
Guests wishing to spend the night in one of the luxury country house’s recently refurbished rooms can avail of a special overnight rate of €55 B&B per person sharing.
