As much as we love to splurge on high end beauty brands here at IndulgeMe, we do get a wave of smugness and satisfaction when we stumble upon a budget brand selling an almost exact match for our favourite products, at a fraction of the price.
The latest is bargainous beauty find that is going viral is from none other than every one’s favourite high street hero, Penneys.
Primark’s PS… Longwear Ultimate Matte Foundation is being hailed as a dupe to Estée Lauder’s cult classic Double Wear.
Many swear by the full coverage and long-wear finish of Double Wear foundation, and if supplies are running low and you can’t get your fix fast enough, or if your beauty budget is already spent, perhaps a trip to Penneys to pick up this €6 Primark alternative is your answer.
The foundation started going viral when YouTuber Lauren Malone posted a comparison video of the two foundations, testing Primark on one side of her face and the original Estée Lauder on the other.
Both foundations looked strikingly similar, she noted, although she did add that she had to use far more product and spend more time building it up in order to get the same level of coverage as Double Wear.
So that cheaper price tag does come with some extra effort.
Lauren isn’t the only one who added this caveat, Beauty blogger Kirsty Kirby wrote in an review on Instagram: “Spoiler alert – it looks great at first but the wear time isn’t as good, the coverage is pretty good for the price point but did need some building and took more work to get a flawless finish.”
“The Primark Foundation looks fabulous at first and you could well think it’s a dupe, but the wear time just wasn’t as good for me. It had started breaking up on my nose by the four hour point and continued to break up in my t zone throughout the day.
Last weekend I tested out a ‘dupe’ I kept hearing about on makeup forums and so on. @esteelauder Double Wear is my all time favourite foundation because of its amazing wear time, so when I kept hearing Primark’s Longwear Ultimate Matte Foundation was a dupe I was pretty intrigued especially considering the price difference. I did an on camera wear test on my YouTube channel #linkinbio if you want to see that. If you are more of a fan of written reviews I will have one on my website this evening. Spoiler alert – it looks great at first but the wear time isn’t as good, the coverage is pretty good for the price point but did need some building and took more work to get a flawless finish, sorry but as they say, it’s good but no cigar! . . . . . . . . #makeupdupes #makeupdupe #esteelauder #esteelauderdoublewear #foundationweartest #youtuber #bblogger #ukbblogger #makeupyoutuber #beautyyoutuber #makeupblogger #primarkmakeup #primarkfoundation #ukmakeupblogger #makeuptesting #affordablemakeup
“The Primark version also has a high talc content so something to consider if you are sensitive. All in all though I was still impressed for £5 and performed better than some of my drugstore foundations but didn’t work as a dupe for me”
So what’s the verdict? It seems like while it won’t exactly match your Double Wear favourite, Primark’s Longwear Ultimate Matte Foundation is worth trying for yourself, and for €6 you can’t really go too wrong.
