This month, GYM+COFFEE is excited to launch the latest addition to its range of leisure wear and accessories – a collection of Irish-made Coffee Bags.
The range of bags is the brainchild of Karl Swaine, one of the brand’s founders. “While I worked in Australia making coffee, I became obsessed with the beautiful burlap sacks the green beans came in”, explains Swaine. “It was such a shame that this fabric was never reused. I always had visions of turning the old fabric into beautiful duffel bags. We have been incredibly lucky to meet Zulfi and Greta at Vel-Oh and turn this dream into a reality. What makes this extra special for us is that these are handmade in Ireland with materials that would otherwise go to waste.”
GYM+COFFEE has teamed up with Galway based brand Vel-Oh to bring Karl’s vision to life in the form of the Coffee Bag Collection. Run by husband and wife team Zulfi and Greta Moon since 2016, Vel-Oh produces premium cycling bags and accessories in rural Ireland, just outside of Galway City.
There is three unique styles in the range:
The Satchel – €70
The BackPack – €100
The Duffel – €120
Each item from the Coffee Bag Collection is hand cut and sewn in rural Ireland by the talented Vel-Oh team, using genuine leather accents. All canvas bases on the bags have a British Millerain wax finish to ensure water resistance. The interior features Vel-Oh’s signature polka dot fabric, sourced from a local Irish supplier while all leather work is carried out on-site in the Dublin Leather Store studios.
The burlap material (jute hessian) is sourced from South and Central American coffee farms and shipped to the brand’s coffee roaster (full of beans!) in Dublin. Each bag style uses a different material source: material for The Satchel is from a coffee farm in Brazil, The BackPack is sourced from Costa Rica and The Duffel is of Mexican origin.
Every bag in this collection is unique.
Each carries a story and each is handmade right here in Ireland.
The GYM+COFFEE Coffee Bag Collection is available online from www.gympluscoffee.com or from the GYM+COFFEE store at Dundrum Town Centre.
Founded by three friends, Diarmuid McSweeney, Karl Swaine and Niall Horgan in January 2017, the aim was to create a brand and community that represents the growing active lifestyle in Ireland. Although fashion is at the forefront of the GYM+COFFEE brand their ethos encompasses a whole lifestyle. Their mission is to encourage people to #MakeLifeRicher by adopting a lifestyle that balances healthy living with an active social life.
