They are big and they are ugly, so you surely have noticed the 90s style ‘Dad trainers’ stomping their way down the catwalks and all over your Instagram feed of late.
Balenciaga, Yeezy, Vetements, Louis Vuitton and more have brought avant garden versions of the so-bad-it’s-good shoe over the past while making them a core feature of the athlesiure trend that is refusing to go anywhere.
The high street soon followed suit, with the likes of Fila, Buffalo, and Acne all providing their answer to the affectionately dubbed ‘ugly shoe’.
Falling more and more out of favour are the fashion pack’s slim Adidas Gazelle and Gucci Ace as chunkier styles become the new favourite street style footwear.
Now Penneys are getting in on the trend too with off-white version trainer are hitting select stores today!
And, as expected, a trip to the budget high street store will save you a pretty penny too.
The original Balenciaga Triple S Trainers will set you back about €695.
The Primark version? Just €18. You’d be mad not to try your hand (or foot) at the controversial trend.
So how to style the trend? As you would normal trainers.
Go high-low by mixing with midi dresses and skirt or a sharp suit, or go 90s all over and team with a tracksuit and crop top.
The trainers will be hitting Penneys Mary Street, O’Connell Street, Liffey Valley, Dundrum, Blanchardstown, and Cork’s Patrick Street stores.
Go forth and welcome dad trainers into your wardrobe.
