Social Diary: Iconic Romantic Ballet ‘Giselle’ Opens Dublin Dance Festival 2018

The English National Ballet’s version of ‘Giselle’, hailed as one of the greatest romantic ballets of all time, opened the Dublin Dance Festival 2018 yesterday evening at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre.

Choreographed by Akram Khan, THIS breath-taking re-imagining of this classic was performed by a cast of 40 dancers under the company’s Artistic Director Tamara Rojo, and accompanied by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.

Spotted at the opening night were Cecelia Ahern, Gail Kaneswaran, Julian Benson as well as Rob Kenny,Ciara O Doherty and Anne Maher from Ballet Ireland

Giselle runs at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre until Sunday 6th May.

Other events coming up at Dublin Dance Festival, which runs till 20 May, include a masterpiece from ground-breaking star of the flamenco world Patricia Guerrero at the Abbey and The Top 8 Street Dance Battle showcasing the best Irish and international street dancers.

For dance fans aged 7+ there’s Philippe Saire’s magical children’s show Hocus Pocus, and at the Science Gallery, there’s Dancing Artificial Intelligence (DAI) – a robot who is an Artificial Intelligence artist – who’s learning how to dance day after day.
