Located at the crossroads of Munster, right in the heart of Mallow Co. Cork, The Hibernian Hotel has long been an epicentre for conviviality welcoming locals and tourists alike for generations. Dedicated to offering the very best fare always served with a side of animated conversation, the hotel has this month launched a new Gastro menu using fresh, quality local ingredients.
Already renowned as one of the areas best eateries, this new menu elevates customer favourites and introduces a host of new must-try dishes.
Begin your meal with a localised version of the Caprese Salad made with beef tomatoes dressed in basil and artisan olive oil and paired with Macroom Buffalo Mozzarella. The Buffalo Cheese Company has Ireland’s first and only herd of milking water buffalo, providing not only a delicious and original delicacy but also a much-needed boost to the local economy.
The Ballycotton Chowder is made with a selection of freshly caught seafood from the neighbouring cliffside village of Ballycotton. This hearty dish is packed full of seafood with many opting to pair this pub favourite with a pint of Guinness. Other tasty options include Nachos with prime Irish beef, Sizzling Prawns and Soup du Jour, all of which use local ingredients where possible.
The sandwich options are sure to please all palates with pulled Ham Hock and Cheddar in a gourmet toastie, Pastrami with Swiss Cheese on freshly baked ciabatta and a Vegan Wrap bursting with a rainbow of vibrant flavours.
The Superfood Quinoa Citrus and White Balsamic salad is the perfect pre or post workout dish for when you work up a sweat in The Hibernian Leisure Centre. Filled with quinoa, kale, feta cheese garden peas, mint and green beans, this colourful salad is a feast for the tastebuds. The delicious Caesar Salad can be customised with chicken or salmon and includes crunchy baby gem lettuce, herb croutons, bacon and grated parmesan in a creamy dressing.
Fresh local fish is a firm fixture adorning the menu for a variety of dishes such as Pan Fried Seabass, Beer Battered Haddock and a Seafood Pie. Prime Irish fillet steak can be cooked to your liking and topped with mouth-watering peppercorn sauce or garlic butter or opt for an Irish Corn Fed Beef Burger topped with smokey Carrigaline cheese served with BBQ coleslaw.
For a lighter option, why not feast on Italian inspired antipasti with Charcuterie and Cheese boards that can be paired with some wine from their fine options available. These sharing platters act as a perfect starting selection for the table or as a savoury dessert choice.
Indulgent, delicious and even some semi guilt-free desserts are sure to satisfy the craving for an after dinner treat. All made by French Pastry Chef, Carine Hamon, the desserts are renowned in Mallow and further afield.
A sweet pairing of bananas and caramel is used to create the decadent Panna Cotta with light and fluffy chantilly cream. Hibernian’s infamous Bread and Butter Pudding is another delectable dessert that marries Bramley Apples with cinnamon and custard. Juicy and bold seasonal berries hearten the flavours of the Crème brûlée complemented with strawberry ice-cream while sharp berries create a stark contrast to the rich dark chocolate used in the Brownie which is aptly paired with vanilla ice cream. Flavour pairings of mint and chocolate are combined harmoniously in the Cheesecake while a Selection of Ice-Cream from Eldorado based in Clonakilty, Co. Cork will be the perfect finish to your meal.
