At the moment, amid all the Christmas fun, the cold has hit and to be honest I feel as if my skin is taking a beating from it all. I’ve fine thin skin that’s very susceptible to thread veins and needs extra protection.
We are told time and time again that we need to update our skin regimes, but I think, with the mildness of Irish weather, sometimes we just forget. In the lead up to my May wedding I was very enthusiastic about my skincare, and whilst Autumn felt mild, right now there’s no doubt it’s absolutely freezing.
With central heating one minute, freezing cold the next, mixed in with all the indulgence that goes with celebrating Christmas, it can show up in the form of parched tight skin and dehydration and redness.
“The cold has hit and to be honest I feel as if my skin is taking a beating from it all.”
I’ve stocked up on a few products that really make a difference hopefully keeping things at bay.
This is what I highly recommend and have been doing for the past few weeks:
Keeping Vitamin Levels Topped Up
Vitamin C is not only necessary for collagen production and maintenance, but it is also a potent antioxidant that can neutralize free radicals in the skin. I really like Revive Active vitamin, amino acids, and mineral complex (€59.95 for a month’s supply), as they taste amazing and having one sachet a day in a pint glass of water also helps keep me hydrated.
Enhancing Your Moisturiser
I adore the YonKa Booster range as my skin is very sensitive and I can’t change my creams and products regularly but these allow you to boost your existing moisturiser making it a little more potent. In particular at the moment I really love the YonKa Hydra+ Booster (€49.50).
Ideal for central heating dehydrated thirsty skin, you simply add a pump of it to your moisturiser, and apply. Containing vegetable glycerin, sodium PCA and brown algae which is hydrating as well as magnesium, Horse chestnut, black currant, raspberry, vitamin B5 as well as vitamin C, it’s like a tonic for your skin. I always notice a difference when I use it.
Don’t Forget Your Lips
There is genuinely nothing more irritating that chapped lips and greasy lip balms that sit on top and do nothing to heal, or in my experience cause break outs around your mouth.
One product that you will never regret buying is the Image ORMEDIC Balancing Lip Complex (€26.00).
The tube looks tiny but given I am still on the same one I have had all year, and I use it regularly, it’s long-lasting. This instantly infuses your lips with soothing hydration while diminishing fine lines.
It contains a powerful, anti-aging polypeptide complex that supports collagen in the lips so they look naturally firm. Most importantly it really penetrates and actually feels healing and effective.
Protect Your Skin from the Elements in Extreme Conditions
If you are doing a lot of activity outdoors, or going skiing, one genius product is Nimue Element Barrier (€46.00).
This protects against extreme temperatures and wind so if you’re outside all day applying this will make a huge difference.
It’s a complex mix of emollients and barrier protection ingredients which strengthen the skin’s natural lipid barrier resistance and protects against dehydration and inflammation. SPF filters provide protection against UV radiation exposure.
What I love most is that it applies clear and you can apply make up on top as you like. Those zinc sticks we all thought were cool to paint our faces with are not ideal if you’re going for a more subtle protection.
Lastly, and most importantly, stay cosy inside and enjoy what is undoubtedly the most wonderful time of the year!
