This year marks the 20th anniversary of ELY WINE BAR on Ely Place. To celebrate, the popular wine bar undertook an incredible transformation over the first three weeks of January. Earlier this week the exciting new look was unveiled in a series of soft openings. ELY is now fully open and looking forward to welcoming customers both old and new.
The three-week construction programme, which began on 2nd January, has seen a redesign and a new layout of the total space. Included in the major refurbishment programme are new state of the art acoustic ceilings, a totally new bar area, new spaces for corporate diners, as well as new lighting and furnishings throughout.
The new wood panelling on the walls is complemented by unique linen coverings that pay homage to the wild Co Clare landscape that provides so much of the restaurant’s food offering. Pride of place downstairs are a series of state-of-the-art wall fridges to ensure ELY’s wines are kept and served at exactly the right temperatures. Classic cocktails, excellent cognacs, armagnacs and vodkas plus premium Irish whiskies, gins and craft beers add to the ELY experience.
ELY director and owner Erik Robson said, “It’s hard to believe that 20 years have gone by since Michelle and I started ELY in 1999. It has been a terrific journey, full of highlights, thanks in the main to our loyal customers, and also to our great staff and suppliers. To celebrate those 20 years we felt it was time for a refresh.
We like to think we have kept the best of what has made ely successful – our great staff, our award-winning wine list and our food with its exceptional Irish provenance. What we have done is to give it a totally new setting which we hope will only enhance the enjoyment of what we have to offer our customers.”
Menus have been carefully crafted by Executive Chef, Ryan Stringer, playing on the growing popularity of sharing plates. Highlights include prawns a la plancha, organic Burren steak tartare and crispy cod cheeks. The new menu also offers a selection of snacks which will be served from 3pm. From organic Burren pork rillettes to a 16-month aged comté, there is the perfect accompaniment to any glass of wine – something ELY staff are only too happy to advise on. Fans of ELY lunch staples needn’t worry however, with the popular soup & sandwich special remaining, as well as ELY favourites including the steak sandwich and fish & chips!
