The summer sun also brings with it a personal responsibility to protect your hair from the heat, chlorine and intense UV rays. If you are planning on jetting off to the sun to show off your new luscious locks, Niamh Gaynor of Neeba Hair & Beauty has put together a must follow list to protect your precious crown from damage this summer:

Protect Your Luscious Locks This Summer With Theses Top Tips

1. Avoid using too many products

Hair, like our skin can suffer in extremities of heat and cold. The sunshine dries out your hair enormously and causes split ends to appear in abundance. It is important to go easy on chemical hair treatments during the summer period to not add to your hairs already dryer, summer condition. If you are planning on changing your hair colour this summer, try and schedule your appointment a few weeks before the sun hits and make sure you use salon products at home to shampoo and condition your tresses.

2. Moisturise and Condition

While the sun is drying out your locks, it is important to restore some moisture and life by using a rinse-out conditioner. It is important to get one that suits your hair type and texture. If you are going for a swim in the sea or pool remember to put a leave-in conditioner on your hair and wear a swimming cap.

3. Use a heat protector when using styling tools.

If you are using heated stylist tools always use a heat protection spray.

4. Hydrate

Drinking more water is not only good for obtaining healthy looking skin, it also helps to hydrate your scalp and hair. In addition to drinking 2-3 litres of water a day, make sure that you are eating delicious healthy foods that are boosting your hair’s health and growth like eggs, fish and sweet potatoes!

5. Use a silk pillowcase

Cotton pillowcases are absorbent and can draw moisture out of your hair and skin while you’re sleeping. Silk on the other hand leaves your hair silky smooth. As a bonus, silk pillowcases also reduce knots and extends the life of your blow dry.
