Lashes are the new brows. There, I said it. While the brow draws your attention to the eye, it is the lash that holds the gaze. It is no wonder then that most of us would choose mascara as our desert island beauty product.
I’m not quite a dab hand with the eponymous Shisheido curlers, so I leave it entirely up to Lancome Monsieur Big Mascara for curl and lift. Let’s just say this strategy is about reliable as it’s SATC namesake in all but the final film. I have yet to meet a mascara that can do the heavy duty job of lifting and curling that I’m after.
With that in mind, I decided to give LVL a lash, a treatment I hadn’t heard of until I spotted that one of my favourite nail haunts, Leeson Beauty, had added it to their list of services.
What’s the hype?
Designed to enhance rather than mask your natural lashes, LVL stands for Lengthen. Volumise and Lift, making the best out of your own assets. Less time consuming than lash extensions, LVL is a low maintenance fix designed to open up and frame the eye with.
The process begins with an intensive cleanse of the eye area to ensure not a scrap of residual mascara remains (although I arrived bare-eyed and panda like).
The lashes undergo a physical curling procedure which pinches ever so slightly but teases the lashes into a wide-eyed curl, set with a bonding gel.
A perming lotion is then applied and remains on the lashes for 20 minutes, during which time all you have to worry about is snoring! The final step is a neutraliser which stays on for a further 15 minutes.
Finally, the lashes are tinted for extra impact and to ensure you can roll out of bed with perfect “I woke up like this” peepers.
How long does it take?
Leeson Beauty, with industry veteran Jen Swaine at the helm, is the only place you can get yourself a killer gel nail in 30 minutes, but when it comes to LVL, the process is slightly longer, approximately 45 minutes.
That said, you will be panned out on a cosy lounger as the various steps are applied, gently but with an expert touch by Suzy Kutlesa, who has previously given me a killer gel nail worth mentioning.
What’s the down time?
The only slight inconvenience involved is the fact that you are advised to avoid mascara for 24-48 hours after the treatment so the curl can set. That said, once you have waited it out in peeper purgatory, the results flutter for themselves.
Is it worth it?
My lashes have become acquainted with my brow bone, my eyes look wide awake at all times and mascara is really only for coloring as my pale lashes can never be tinted enough for my liking – that’s a result as far as I’m concerned!
Be ready for people to accuse you of faking it and feeling more than a little flutter of envy when they hear you haven’t endured lash extensions, but rather given your own set the ultimate enhancement.
Diamonds were a girl’s best friend, then came lashes, and this treatment gives your lashes 2 carat style flutter, like a perm you’d be happy to undergo.
How much does it cost?
LVL lashes at Leeson Beauty cost €70 but keep an eye out for promotional prices.
How often do I need to get it done?
Results last for approximately six to eight weeks…be warned, you may become addicted!
