Review: Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask – The Thirst-Quenching Mask Plumps Skin While You Sleep

What’s pink, glossy and had a 5000 waitlist? The Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask from Glow Recipe, that’s what.

The Korean brand caused hysteria among skincare lovers when it launched the product last year and it swiftly reached cult status, and not just because of its cute packaging.

I tried to resist the urge to click add to cart, I really did, but when the good reviews just kept rolling I couldn’t help jump on the millennial pink bandwagon.

What’s the hype?

As you might have guessed, watermelon is a key ingredient in the Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask.

Traditionally used in Korea to soothe irritated and inflamed skin, watermelon extract is used in skincare to hydrate (since it’s 92% water), while lycopene acts as an antioxidant protecting the complexion from damaging free radicals.

I know you’ve heard this before, so please excuse the cliche, but this really is like sleep in a jar.

Blended with a mix of fruit acids, lactic acid, hyaluronic acid and glycolic acid, the mask works while you sleep to tackle pollution and environmental damage, as well as exfoliating (sans any irritation) and seriously hydrating.

How do you use it?

The pale pink bouncy jelly feels a little odd to touch, and can bit awkward to apply. It does comes with a small plastic spoon for you to ladle it out, but that got a bit too fussy for me.

Now, I simply dip two fingers and scoop out a few small dollops of the watermelon scented jelly.

Apply all over your face as the very last step of your skincare regime before you head to bed a couple of nights each week.

You can also apply it for 10 minutes during the day if your complexion needs an quick hit of hydration.

Does it work?

I know you’ve heard this before, so please excuse the cliche, but this really is like sleep in a jar.

You wake up with calm, plump skin. The fine lines on my forehead and around my eyes that sometimes appear when I’m dehydrated have vanished.

Puffiness and redness, the two things that I’m usually confronted with in the bathroom mirror, are no where to be seen.

When applied the mask on days when I’ve had a breakout too blemishes appear reduced on waking, plus I swear the scars are fading faster too.

Don’t worry about it transferring to your pillow either, it’s clear, and besides if your skin is thirsty it will drink it straight up.

What I love the most about it, besides it’s thirst quenching effects, is how simple it is to apply.

I’ve already gifted it to two of the favourite women in my life – a sure sign that I am truly head over heels with a product.

Most face masks you need to take time out to apply, and while I’m all for squeezing in as much ‘me time’, as possible, its refreshing to be able to get the benefits of an indulgent pampering sesh while you sleep.
