Today, Rte 2FM, the National Radio Broadcaster, has revealed its all new Day-Time Weekday Show line up and we are delighted to see so many familiar faces and indeed one of the most impressive casts of female DJ Presenters in Irish Radio.
Eoghan McDermott is moving from his drive time show to host the all new Breakfast Show from 6am to 9am with Doireann Garrihy, the one new addition to the schedule. The station hopes Doireann will bring new listeners to FM from her 180,000 strong Instagram audience, her podcast, and her comedy fans.
Jennifer Zamparelli follows breakfast with a talk show from 9am to 12 Midday on weekdays. She will be given time to “get used to being in the studio on her own”, but by autumn her 9am-noon show will play less music. It will instead feature “relevant stories”, inspired by the news headlines and the “real issues” people talk about.
“Over 12-14 weeks, Jen will emerge as a speech broadcaster,” Dan Healy, head of Rte 2fm said. “There’s a humour to Jen and there’s an edge to Jen,” he added.
Our former Women We Love Tracy Clifford, will move to 12-3pm noon for a three hour music show. Her show will remain ‘Music-focused’, yet will see her three-hour slot move one hour earlier to midday in the re-jig.
“She’s our secret weapon,” says Dan Healy, Head of Rte 2fm. “She’s a journalist by trade and ended up on breakfast by accident. She was on Spin and it took us two years to get her here. She’s done really well with a really strong music show.”
The Rte 2FM schedule shake-up also see’s Jenny Greene return to air. The DJ was previously co-presenting on the Nicky Byrne Show for five years and also presented the hugely popular Electric Disco on Saturday evenings and performed with the RTE Concert Orchestra. But following Byrne’s departure to return to Westlife, Jennifer Zamparelli was given her own show and Greene was offered an evening show, which she turned down. So this is great news for fans of the veteran DJ as RTE has confirmed Jenny will return to the daytime schedule from June 2019, with a show kicking off from 3pm on weekdays.
Breakfast Republic’s Bernard O’Shea, is leaving radio to focus on TV. While his fellow co-presenter Keith Walsh is remaining at 2FM but moving to weekends while Lottie Ryan, who has been filling the seat vacated by Jennifer Zamparelli on the show will return to her role as entertainment reporter.
Evening time slots have not yet been finalised, but are understood to include a wider cast of presenters, including podcast talent eyed by 2fm.
