Chic, Scandi and oh-so affordable, Søstrene Grene, the Danish home and craft chain, has already won the hearts of the Irish with stores in Dún Laoghaire, Blanchardstown, Swords, Athlone, Cork and Limerick.
Now they are coming for the heart of Dublin with a new location slap, bang in the city centre.
As reported in The Irish Times the chain is set to open an extensive 6,077sq foot store on South Great George’s Street, in the space previously occupied by Waltons music shop.
It is said that Sostrene Grene was chosen for the prime retail location despite much interest from operators in the food and drinks industry – a move by city planners to boost the flagging number of retail stores on the street.
A recent example of the takeover of restaurants, cafes and bars is the arrival of Five Guys into the large space formerly runybt Dunnes Stores as a dedicated home furnishings store.
Søstrene Grene (which translates as the “Green Sisters”) was founded in Denmark in 1973 and now has more than 160 stores in Denmark and across France, Germany, Spain, Iceland, Japan and the Nordic states.
We for one cannot wait for the Danish lifestyle and homeware emporium to land, there’s something about shopping for our homes that makes us feel less indulgent about splashing cash we probably don’t need to be spending…
