Earlier in the month we shared the three biggest beauty trends as predicted by renowned makeup artist Leonard Daly, and now it’s the turn of his partner in crime at The Beauty Agency, celebrity hair stylist Lydia O’Carroll, to spill the three hair trends she thinks will be everywhere in 2018.
Working in the hairdressing industry for over twenty years, Lydia began her career in a small hair salon in Dublin city before she moved to New York over 10 years ago and then to L.A where she worked with the very best in the business, styling hair for glossy magazines and advertorial campaigns for high-end brands such as Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, and Victoria’s Secret.
She’s also tended to the tresses of some of Hollywood’s biggest names including Eva longoria, Kate Moss and Rosie Huntington Whiteley.
Read on for Lydia’s expert insight into the most hotly tipped hair trends and advice on how you can easily work the trends yourself.
Trend 1: Precise Hair Parts and Shine
“We are seeing a lot of perfect partings and beautiful shiny blow drys with very slight movement on the red carpets and catwalks this season – Just gorgeous healthy hair!
Saorise Ronan rocked this look at the Critics Choice Awards.
To achieve this style I would recommend fortnightly treatments such as Olaplex – it is literally hair insurance!
I’d also advise clients to invest in a good hair oil, Moroccan oil is my go to as it has argan oil in it which the hair just eats it up.”
Trend 2: Low Ponytails
“Another huge trend at the minute is low ponys at the nape of the neck or just above with a perfect deep side part or middle part, finished off with metallic accessories in the form of hair bands or bobby pins.
To create this look just blow dry hair into your preferred parting, back comb around the crown area, brush your hair down into the nape of your neck.
Secure your pony with a metal statement bobbin and finish with a spritz of hair spray and argan oil.
A great example of this style is Jessica Biel at the Golden Globes.”
Trend 3: Beachy Blondes & Platinum Babes
“This season’s colour trend is all about beachy blondes or platinum babes.
Kim K is rocking a platinum blonde with a blue or pink hue at the moment and this look is set to be huge!
The hue is achieved with a toner and rinse out. Her colour takes a lot of work and treatments in between and is definitely not an overnight success. Olaplex is your best friend if going for this look!
Beachy blonde is another style that is going nowhere this season – think Rosie Huntington Whiteley! This look is super flattering and so versatile.”
